On April 30, 1997, the broadcast premiere of the famous episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ eponymous sitcom, three characters go through journeys of self-discovery. One is Gil, a teenaged boy with a crush on Clay, a boy who lives at the end of the cul-de-sac, with whom he plans to watch the episode; another is Louise, who has been exploring her sexuality through chats with women online, a secret she hides from her husband Joe; and finally Phyllis, an elderly woman in an assisted living facility with the gift for the gab, whose memory has begun to fail, but thankfully not when she reminisces about Dot, a girl she fancied while studying to be a secretary. After watching the episode, Gil and Clay move closer and closer towards declaring their feelings for each other, while Louise comes out to her heartbroken husband, and Phyllis lives inside the fantasy of a night out dancing with Dot. The next day Gil visits his grandmother (Phyllis) at her home, where she is taken care of by her nurse (Louise), leading to a gentle moment of recognition between grandmother and grandson, and where Phyllis cheers on Louise, who twirls like Dot does in her memories.

This program will run 1 hour and 30 minutes with no intermission.
